Working as I have on the Yes campaign for quite sometime, the route by which we could win was clear. At the start we were in the position of the richest third of Scottish people being heavily against us, the poorest third heavily for us and the middle third breaking 3/4 against us.
We could have won in three ways.
1. We had to motivate and inspire the bottom third into registering to vote and then turning out in equal numbers as the richest third. We almost achieved this. We performed the most successful engagement programme with the working class, the demotivated and marginalised that Scotland, indeed the world, has ever seen.
